"Location: It is located in Kayseri Province, Melikgazi District, Gesi Neighborhood. Current Situation: The main walls are mostly intact and the main dome has collapsed. History: Some travelers who came to Kayseri in the first half of the 19th century talk about this church. Although there are those who placed the building in the 18th century in terms of its stylistic features, considering that minorities in the Ottoman Empire were allowed to build new churches after the Tanzimat and based on some sources, it can be stated that the structure took its present form in 1886. Plan and Architectural Features: Surp Stepanos Church is a free cross planned structure in east-west direction. The entrance façade has an impressive appearance with the plasters and moldings protruding from the wall surface, and the Corinthian style capitals of the plasters. Decoration: There are high relief stone decorations on the exterior of the building, especially on the west facade. Corinthian capitals, S and C curved moldings, and grape cluster vases are examples of stone decoration. Cruciform and circular panels made of plaster material are observed in the interior. It cannot be determined exactly whether these panels are decorated or not. Material and Technique: Smooth cut stone was used in the construction of the building. Frescoes on plaster material were preferred for interior decoration. Inscription: The building has no inscription. It is thought that the inscription may have been dismantled from its location. In the northwest corner of the church, there is a partially erased Armenian inscription on the stone near the ground."
