"Located in the Cumhuriyet District of Melikgazi District, the Grand Bazaar occupies a very large place in the commercial fabric of Kayseri. It is estimated that the structure, which is considered to be the largest covered bazaar after the one in Istanbul among the covered bazaars built in the Ottoman period, was built in the 15th century. We know that Evliya Çelebi, who came to Kayseri in the 17th century, talked about the building. However, the building was badly damaged by fires in 1849 and 1870 in the 19th century. After these fires, the Grand Bazaar was built by the municipality as 1804 shops with the efforts of Maraşlı Osman Pasha. It is understood from the old photographs that the old bazaar extends to today's underground bazaar. Almost all of the vaults of the bazaar were demolished in 1935 by the governor of Kayseri. It is known that the Grand Bazaar was almost rebuilt in its current form between 1987-1991. The only inscription in the building, which contains many bazaars with different names, is located in the bazaar built by Hacı Efendi in 1844 and named after him. The bazaar consists of shops lined up on the sides of the streets running parallel and perpendicular to each other in the north-south and east-west directions. Smooth cut stone material was used throughout the Grand Bazaar."
